ICAP holds an awareness seminar on the provisions of new Companies Act, 2017

An interactive full day “Seminar on Companies Act, 2017” was organized by Southern Regional Committee (SRC) of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) show casing eminent speakers. More than 600 ICAP members from industry and profession attended this event and gained valuable insights from subject experts and seasoned professionals.

Mr. Nadeem Yousuf Adil, President of ICAP welcomed the participants and explained the importance of the newly enacted law. He thanked SECP in participating in this event and assured that ICAP would proactively be supporting SECP in its endeavors for improving the corporate sector of Pakistan. Ms. Bushra Aslam, Executive Director SECP spoke at length on the key changes brought in Companies Act, 2017.She also shared highlights of “Company Incorporation Regulations & Intermediaries Registration Regulations” with the audience.

Changes and Implementation challenges relating to the new provisions on corporate cases, directors, investment in associates, related party transactions, auditor’s qualification and audit report, disclosure requirements under fourth and fifth schedule and global register of beneficial ownership were discussed. The speakers included Mr. Amar Naseer, Legal Director & Company Secretary Unilever Pakistan Limited, Mr. Farrukh Rehman, Chairman Accounting Standards Board of ICAP, Mr. Arslan Khalid, Partner EY Ford Rhodes, Mr. Amyn Malik, Partner KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co and Mr. Zulfikar Akthar, Partner A.F. Ferguson & Co.Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Ehsan Malik, CEO Pakistan Business Council gave the corporate perspective. The first session closing remarks were given by Mr. Asad Ali Shah, Partner Deloitte Yousuf Adil and the closing remarks were given by Syed Masoud Ali Naqvi, Advisor KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co.

ICAP held a seminar in Lahore in August and will be holding more such awareness sessions for the benefit of all the stakeholders.
